Is Thermal Insulation Required in Buildings?
It is possible for people to live a more comfortable life in environments with a temperature of 20-22°C and a relative humidity of 50 percent. In winter, outdoor temperatures are well below 20°C. In summer, air temperatures are well above 20°C.
Heat energy is transferred from high temperature environment to low temperature environment. Therefore, in buildings, energy losses occur in winter and unwanted energy gains in summer.
The
process to limit heat losses and gains in buildings and installations is called thermal insulation. Thermal insulation is made of buildings; walls facing the roofs, outside or unused sections such as garages or warehouses, floors separating apartments from the ground or non-inhabited areas, plumbing pipes and ventilation ducts.
Thermal insulation in buildings with the Regulation on Thermal Insulation in Buildings, published in the official newspaper No. 24043 in 2000, became mandatory in buildings.
Newly built structures need to be built with insulation, while old and non-insulated structures also need to have their structures insulated. Old buildings need to be insulated by
2017.
